You might have heard a lot about biodiesel. Biodiesel is diesel that can power up your car that is made from vegetable oils and other natural sources. It does not come from the regular crude oil that usually has to be imported from oil-producing countries.
Renewable Energy Trends
When in 2005 the federal Production Tax Credits (PTC) for companies producing renewable power was renewed, it sent a message far and wide that the renewable energy industry was worth getting into, with the promise of profitability, energy efficiency, and social/environmental good karma all in one tidy package. The following are some of the latest ways weve seen this collective foray into renewable energies take shape.
The Cause Of Global Warming. Is It You?
We know the Earth is getting warmer.
The International Panel on Climate Change predicts a global temperature rise of about 5C by the end of this century. Thats enough for major changes. Like in rising seawater levels, in food production and rainfall.
Knowing why we are in this fix is the first step to doing something about it. Yes, thats you and me.
There are four levels at which to understand the cause of global warming.
* The mechanics of global warming
* W…
10 Alternate Energy Sources To Live Well With Global Warming.
Feeling hot under the collar?
Glaciers and polar ice are melting, ocean levels are rising, hot, dry weather, huge forest fires, water restrictions, crop failures…
You name it, if these don’t feature in your life yet, they soon will. Global warming and climate change are facts of life now, according to the International Panel on Climate Change, and many scientists.
Huge problems beyond our control!
But are you hot under the collar?
If you’re not, you probably …
An Overview Of Solar Energy And Other Renewable Energy Sources
When we talk about renewable energy we are referring to power that delivers energy from resources that will not be depleted because of our use of them. Renewable energy is an alternative to non-renewable fossil fuel energy for reasons other than the factor of non-depletion.
The Energy Waste Dilemma
For decades now, the worldhas been consuming energy with little
thought that the source of the fuel is finite. We may be just
now beginning to learn this innevitable truth.
Chocolate The Answer To Hydrogen Fuel Supplies?
Many people look to hydrogen fuel cells as the answer to our energy issues. The only problem, of course, is creating usable hydrogen. Chocolate production may be the answer.
Grameen Shakti and the Solar Revolution
An insightful article about Grameen Shakti, a renewable resources company that is using solar energy to revolutionize rural living in Southeast Asia.
Is Solar Power The Immediate Answer To Our Energy Woes ?
The world has placed virtually all its eggs in one energy source
basket…the earth’s oil, gas and coal fossil fuel reserves. It must now learn how to slowly wean itself from it. The question is…”where do we
turn for the new source that will turn our energy wheels ?”
Ranting and Raving about Renewable Energy
An interesting and insightful article exploring the past and present state of renewable energy initiatives.
The Bio-Ethanol Fuel Dilemma – A Qualitative Research
Bio-fuels are non-fossil fuels, produced from agriculture sources, residues, and waste. Bio-ethanol refers to ethanol produced from crops (e.g., corn-ethanol and sugar-ethanol) and from waste (i.e., biomass-ethanol). The motivation for developing bio-ethanol as a transportation fuel is based on concerns about energy security, environmental quality, economic competitiveness, and stabilization of the agricultural sector. (National Research Council [NRC], 1999, p. 6) Brazils three-decade experience in sugarcane-ethanol is considered a success by its government, although criticized by some researchers (Pimentel, 2001; Pimentel et al., 2002). Corn-ethanol production in North America is highly controversial; its cost, its energy balance, and its socio-economical effects are strongly debated between researchers. Biomass-ethanol, produced from farm and municipality waste is still in its early technological and industrial development. This quantitative research presents and analyzes the arguments, and concludes with recommendations for the short- and the long-term; recommendations that are best suited? for North America and that take into account all the aspects presented in this research paper.
An Overview of Wind as an Energy Source
Wind is one of the cleanest, if not cleanest, renewable energy sources available to us. What most people dont know is it is also the fastest growing energy sector.
